You wouldn’t know it from the way I unwind now, but I used to be that girl still scrolling at 2am. Searching for one more message. One more high. One more reason to stay awake instead of sinking into myself.

I’m a dopamine-driven creature (aren’t we all?). But what I’ve learned—through study, experience, and dozens of delicious nights—is this:

Dopamine gets us to the moment.

But oxytocin and serotonin help us stay in it and be satisfied in it.

So I started building my evenings around those hormones - oxytocin (connection & bonding) and serotonin (satisfaction and building).

Sometimes, it’s a bath before bed.
Sometimes it’s mint tea and music while we talk about the kind of pleasure that doesn’t need to last forever to mean something.
Sometimes we read poetry out loud.
Sometimes we make up our own.

But always we connect, see each other, be present to each other.

We eat slowly. We laugh easily.
And eventually, we drift—toward stillness, toward touch, toward sleep.
Or toward something else entirely. No pressure. Only presence.

There’s always space for the humanness of the moment.
There’s always warmth.
There’s always the option to be held—physically, emotionally, or not at all.

You don’t need to know what kind of night you want.
We’ll find it together.
